Step 3: Set up CSA shares

Shares & Products / CSA Shares / Add a Share

One of the key steps as you begin to set up CSA Manager is to have a high-level understanding of the way shares, product listings, and SKUs are used in your online store. First, “shares” are the boxes you define and make available to the customer on a regularly scheduled basis. The information you put in when you “add a share” is used by the software but not directly visible to the public. “Product listings” provide detailed information for each item in your online catalog, including your shares and any add-on products you may offer. The software formats the product listing information into a page that is visible to the public via your online catalog. Each share could potentially have several different product listings or configurations, but most shares have a single product listing. The SKU, or “stock keeping unit,” is the standard identification of an item/product on sale, specifying the price and how you plan to collect payment for the product.

Add a Share: New CSA Share page

Here you will fill in the information requested on the screen. Please be sure to click the Save button several times while working on this and all pages in your set-up. If you navigate away from the page, your work may be lost.

Type a Share Name in the first box. To help distinguish your shares over time, we suggest you identify the share by the year and season, e.g. “2016 Summer.”

Period shows the length of your share season. If your CSA makes deliveries on a set seasonal schedule, click in the first box to select the beginning date from a pop-up calendar. Do the same for the end-date of your season in the second box.

Open ended: If your CSA runs year-round, leave these two date fields blank.

NOTE: The week in CSA Manager begins on Sunday and runs through Saturday.

NOTE: Farms using the “open ended” period have two payment options available to them. Farms using the “set dates” period have three payment options available for their members. See SKUs and Payment types.

Sizes: Enter the name of the different share sizes you offer. Between one and four sizes can be designated per share. (Most farms offer one or two sizes.) Price: retail value of one box. Items: target number of items per box. Cost: projected internal production cost per box.

You may leave the Items count and Cost columns blank unless you track them for your bookkeeping records. This information will not be made visible to the public. This information is used when designing a box in the Harvest section of CSAware.

Status: Leave as “active”.

Click on Save Share.
